As a reader, I find enjoyment in learning about others and gaining a greater understanding of people's journeys in life. This book did that for me. The topics discussed were difficult and intense, at times, to read. But I appreciate DJ's honesty, openness and willingness to share his experiences and truth. This is a book I will share with others. I think there are elements within these pages that every person has experienced or can relate to on some level....dysfunctional families, broken relationships, communication issues, secrets, lack of boundaries, breaking promises to oneself....it's all there. I had the privilege of going to college with DJ. I have even more respect for him now than I did then. I have,watched ingrown and change. I never knew what he was going through. This is a well-written book and it is well worth reading.
Mr burr described his journey to renewal after challenges of dependency -it's also tells a story how youth face such challenges and the resulting impacts to growing up. Mr burr gives not only testimonials but critical recommendations that folks can use- I highly recommend reading the book
This book was very well written and a page turner. I seriously could not put it down. Mr. Burr is an inspiration to those addicted to not just Sex and Love, but an addict of any sort. To know that you can hit rock bottom and still make your way out and survive is a marvel to us all. The book is not for the shy, it is graphic at times, but it is necessary to understand just what he went through.
Raw honesty - that's why I gave this book five stars. In a world of impression management, a book this open about sex addiction and codependency is SO refreshing! The author is a licensed therapist, so his voice is infused with psychological savvy that explains and teaches as it touches. This level of candor is the wave of the future in memoirs -- keep it coming D.J.!
What a brave book. I am always inspired by authors who open up their lives and experiences so that others can learn. As a therapist myself, I recommend this book to my clients so that they can better understand sex addiction and that there is hope. This was an amazing read that I highly recommend.
Captivating read! I presume the content to be easy for almost anyone to identify with. Something for everyone to learn from.
I hate reading but every once in a while a book gets my attention. I believe I read the first 9 chapters in a day. Then I moved out of state and have been very busy, but i just finished it up in 2 nights. There are so many ways that I can relate. I went back to Alanon because of this book and I am looking for a CODA meeting in my area. Thanks DJ for sharing and for giving others inspiration..Hugs
